Tips on Spanish Pronunciation

Spanish is a straightforward language. Take into account the following tips:

  • In some countries "tú" is more commonly heard than "usted", used in formal situations.
  • In Spain they used "vosotros" and in most of the other countries where Spanish is the official language "ustedes" is used.
  • "V" and "b" are alike in speech, they are named "v pequeña/corta" and "b grande/larga".
  • "H" is always silent. Example: habitación (bedroom)
  • "J" always sounds like "h" in English. Example: caja (box)
  • "Ll" sounds like "Y". Example: calle (street)
